Rallys and Points Days

We held our first couple of Rally Days and our first Points Day in February. All riders that attended seemed to really enjoy themselves and the instructors commented how co-operative and well mannered all riders were. It is great to see so many keen and enthusiastic riders so early in the year, even with the extreme heat!! Keep up the great riding kids, and we’ll see you at the next Rally Day.

Young Riders School

Calliope is hosting the Zone 9 Young Riders School on the 26/27 March at the Racecourse. This school is a great opportunity for our kids to learn lots of new skills without having to travel far away. Many aspects of pony club will be covered at this weekend; including flatwork, jumping and cross country. The instructors for this weekend are: Flatwork – Heather Davidson, Jumping – Mark Tomkins, Cross Country – Lyn Coombs. All these instructors are extremely knowledgeable and have years of experience teaching around Queensland Pony Clubs. The cost of the weekend is $90, and this includes 2 x 1hr flatwork, 2 x 1hr jumping and 2 x 2hr cross country lessons. This is excellent value for money; with this many lessons costing more than double if attended separately. Nominations can be made through Kate, and need to be in by 21 March. There is only 32 spaces available for the weekend, so get in early so you don’t miss out. Please take advantage of this great opportunity to learn from such outstanding instructors, so close to home. More information and nomination forms are available on the club website or via email.

Working Bee

We are holding a Working Bee to prepare our grounds at the Racecourse for the upcoming Young Riders School we are hosting. The working bee will be held on Saturday 5th March at 7am. We ask for all families to please attend as many hands will make light work. There is a lot that needs to be done before we can hold this event so please get in and lend a hand. Please bring rakes, mowers, whipper snippers, hammers, paint brushes, star picket drivers or any other equipment that might come in handy.

XC Adopt-a-Jump

All families should have nominated themselves for a XC jump by now, your jump needs to be kept mowed, whipper-snipped and tidy so that they can be used at all times by our riders. The list of names and jumps is at the club canteen, please get in and clear your jump ASAP.

Calliope Equitation and Showjump Competition

Need another qualifier for State or just want some competition experience? Calliope are holding a Jumping Equitation and Showjumping weekend on the 12th/13th of March. Come along and support the club. If you are not familiar with events it is great to get out and have a look at what goes on. If you would like to compete but are not sure what you need to do please give Kate a call and she will be only too happy to help. It will be lots of fun and we look forward to seeing you there. All levels are catered for, so get in and have a go  We are also asking for donations for a raffle we will be running as a fundraiser during the weekend. Small prizes ($5) would be much appreciated to make the multi-draw raffle a big event and an easy money maker for our club.

Nominating for events

All nominations must go through the club events secretary and must be received at least 2 days before the nominations actually close, this gives the events secretary time to finalise all nominations and send them to the organising committee of the competition. Nominations can be made through the club email calliope@pcaq.asn.au , addressed to our events secretary, Kate. Fees for nominations, camping, stabling etc must be paid when nominations are given to the events secretary. By following the correct procedures it is made easier for both the families and the events secretary.

Position Vacant

We are still in search of a club secretary. If you are keen to get involved, please contact the President, Misty to discuss. Our club needs a committed Secretary to function effectively, so please step forward if you can.

Club Meetings

Calliope Hack & Pony Club holds its meetings on the second Wednesday of every month, 7pm at the Clubhouse. Our next meeting is Wednesday 9th March, please come along and have your say.

Competition Results

If you have any results from competitions you have attended, please email them to the club email address calliope@pcaq.asn.au so we can publish them in the monthly newsletter. It is great to see our club members getting such positive results around the district and we would love to share all your successes with all club members. It is encouraging for the riders themselves, but also for the younger, less experienced riders to have something to aim for.

Recent Results:

Calliope Hack & Pony Club

February Newsletter

Welcome back...

After another fast and furious year, 2011 is upon us and we are looking forward to another fantastic year of riding, learning and fun at Calliope Hack & Pony Club. We have a few new members so far this year, and a lot of kids re-joining after the great time they had in 2010. We welcome all new members, and welcome back all old members. We are sure 2011 is set to be a great year for our club and we look forward to sharing the journey with all our members.

Housekeeping

XC Adopt-a-Jump

All families are asked to choose a XC jump they will be able to maintain during the year. All jumps need to be kept mowed, whipper-snipped and tidy so that they can be used at all times by our riders. Excess grass / sticks also need to be cleared away so they are not a trip / slip hazard. These great facilities do take a lot of care and up-keep, but with a little help from each family we are able to use all the jumps at our rally days, as well as competitions, so the kids get the most benefit possible.

Canteen / Toilet Duties

All families are asked to attend 2 canteen duties and 1 toilet duty during the year. Neither of these duties are difficult but are required so that club rally days can go ahead. While it is hot, the canteen is a great place to hang out, chat and catch up on the gossip, while feeding the starving riders. All the kids enjoy being able to go to the canteen for a drink or snack during the rallies, and if we don’t have parents working in the canteen unfortunately this can’t happen.

Young Riders School

Calliope is hosting the Zone 9 Young Riders School on the 26/27 March at the Racecourse. This school is a great opportunity for our kids to learn lots of new skills without having to travel far away. All aspects of pony club will be covered at this weekend, including flatwork, jumping, cross country, sporting and horsemanship. There will be instructors from all over QLD teaching and the school will cater for all levels, with ALL members encouraged to attend. More information will be available as it gets closer, but please keep it in mind.

State Equitation and Showjump Championships

Nambour are hosting the State Eq / SJ Championships this year over the school holidays, 19-22 April. To attend this event you need to qualify and meet all the requirements set out by PCAQ. If you are interested and think you can qualify for this event please contact our events secretary Kate so she can give you the nomination package you will need to complete to be able to attend this event, the nomination package is also available on our website. Nominations close for the state event on 7th March so if you are interested please contact Kate ASAP.

Positions Vacant

We are still in search of a club secretary as well as a canteen purchasing officer. If you feel you could be of value in either of these positions, please contact the President, Misty to discuss. Our club needs these positions to continue, so please step forward if you can.

Club Meetings

Calliope Hack & Pony Club holds its meetings on the second Wednesday of every month, 7pm at the Clubhouse. Committee members should attend as many as possible and we encourage other members to come along and find out what is going on as well as give suggestions to what they want to happen in their club. The meetings give all members the chance to have input in to what the club is planning for the kids during the year. The next meeting is on Wednesday 9th March at 7pm at the Clubhouse. Please come along and have you say.

IGA Tokens

Calliope IGA currently has a community donation scheme which all members are encouraged to participate in. If you spend over $30 at Calliope IGA you can ask for a token, place this token in the Calliope Hack &Pony Club collection booth and our club will receive a percentage of the community donations when they are given out. All donations such as these go towards purchasing new gear (jumps, markers, ropes etc) which all club members will benefit from.
